Congratulations Evangelos Kanoulas on your Vidi Grant Award

We are pleased to announce that ADS Senior Researcher Evangelos Kanoulas (Informatics Institute & Amsterdam Business School, UvA) has been awarded a Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) Vidi grant of 800K euros. Evangelos will utilise the grant to continue to develop his own innovative line of research and research group.

Evangelos holds a joint UvA post between the Informatics Institute, where he is assistant professor, and the Faculty of Economics and Business, where he is professor of text analytics & information retrieval. He is also programme manager of the ADS MSc data science track.

Evangelos’ research project: ‘Conversational Search Engines’ will focus on searching for information in digital repositories. Kanoulas and fellow researchers will develop intelligent agents able to converse with users to accurately retrieve information in complex domains such as medical and legal.

NWO Talent Scheme: In the current allocation round, the NWO awarded 86 research proposals, from the 571 submitted. The grant enables them to develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group in the coming five years. Vidi is aimed at experienced researchers who have carried out successful research for a number of years after obtaining their PhDs. Together with Veni and Vici, Vidi is part of the NWO Talent Scheme. More info on the Vidi programme HERE
