Congratulations to Alexander Schoenhuth appointed Professor of Genome Data Science

On 01 October 2017, Alexander Schoenhuth of Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam was appointed Professor ‘Genome Data Science’ at the Faculty of Science of Utrecht University. It concerns a part-time appointment for one day a week.

The research field of Schoenhuth concerns Genome Data Science. He focusses on the development of algorithms that can process and manipulate extremely large amounts of genome data. Eventually this will make it possible to treat patients individually (Genome Data 2 Person).

At Utrecht University Schoenhuth works with researchers of the ‘Theoretical Biology and Bioinformatics’ group, and also with several researchers of UMCU. He is closely involved in ‘ProjectMine’, with the aim of fighting ‘amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)’ – one of the largest genome projects worldwide so far.
