ADS Summer Startup Event Report
On Friday 23 June, Amsterdam Data Science organised an event focussed on the Data Science Startup Ecosystem in Amsterdam. The event was an opportunity for 18 Amsterdam-based Data Science Startups to pitch to the ADS Meet-up (Academic and Industry) & University student communities (BSc, Master, PhD) with close to 200 attendees.
At the event, chaired by Maarten de Rijke, Professor in Information Retrieval, Informatics Institute (UvA), the Startups in their 2 minute pitches explained to the audience what they do and what they would like from the community: data science expertise, to connect with students for internships, insight on how they might scale-up. Equally, it was a chance for researchers to gain a better knowledge of what setting-up a Startup involves and for industry experts to gain more insight on local Startups.
The Startups were all within 5 years of setting-up and covered diverse fields including applying Data Science in digital food recipes, translating news items, and improving the well-being of cows. The event was followed by a networking session with pizza and drinks. The Startups that pitched were: Flavourspace, BrainCreators, I Hate Statistics, Owlin, Aiir Innovations, ENPICOM, Maxwell, Delph, MyReputationLab, Pacmed, Eccentrade, Crunchr, SEP, Door2doc, Connecterra, Speaksee, ViriCiti, and UserSat.
