Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) has been partner since 2015.
The department’s research program is concerned with understanding the foundations, the mechanisms, and the technologies for developing and deploying advanced inter-connected information-processing systems. In an international and highly competitive playing field, we aim to lead in understanding software systems that scale, that behave intelligently, that are dependable, and that can be either autonomous or have humans in the loop. Our research is focused on scientific depth, but also strives to address questions about the inherent social relevance, value and nature of the technology itself. Our mission and strategy are a response to these challenges.
One of the strongest aspects of our department is the internal collaboration among research groups, that fosters cooperation while also maintaining the strengths of the individual groups.
Diversity and Inclusion
The VU Amsterdam has a diversity office. They provide support with various monthly diversity walk-ins which include the 3D (Diversity, Debate & Dialogue) diversity networks (e.g., WO&MEN network), and events (e.g., Diversity-Sensitive Education). The diversity office also has a diversity policy tool kit and a specific focus on student experience on campus from the diversity, inclusion, and integration point of view.
