CWI Lectures: Decision Making Under Uncertainty

The CWI lectures will present a diverse set of topics on the theme of making decisions under uncertainty 4 November at 13:00, ranging all the way from the micro to the macro-level. Four world-leading speakers will talk about their perspective on the theme, from their background in machine learning, operations research, public health and climate research.

Should we offer this client a mortgage? How many spare parts do we need? How much money do I need in my pension fund? What is the best vaccination strategy? How do we mitigate the consequences of climate change?

In many diverse situations, we need to make tactical, operational or strategic decisions with a lack of full information. The problems occur on a vast array of time scales, both in the private and public sector. In the academic world, different paradigms to deal with uncertainty exist.
