Workshop #1 by Pascal WiggersSophie Horsman and Saskia Robben (Centre of Expertise Applied AI, Responsible AI Lab, HvA):

There is an increasing awareness that AI systems can reproduce – and even amplify – unfairness in our society. From facial recognition systems that discriminate against people of color to hiring algorithms that favour men over women; how can we understand and mitigate this problem?

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to use a fairness evaluation metric. In the first part of the workshop, we will make use of Fairlearn, an open-source, community-driven library that gives insight and helps to improve the fairness of machine learning algorithms. In the second part of the workshop, we will guide you to translate this newly acquired knowledge and skills to your own work and dataset and more critically examine the broader issue around AI fairness.

For this workshop, we will work with Jupyter Notebook, so it is necessary to bring a computer with Python and Jupyter Notebook already installed. In addition, we encourage you to bring your own cases (data) to the workshop.

Workshop #2 by Hinda Haned (Civic AI Lab, Owls & Arrows, UvA)

How should we design responsible AI systems within organizations?

How can organizations design responsible AI systems that can generate business value and avoid unintended harmful outcomes that affect their clients or end-users? In this workshop, we will work together on answering this question using real-world use-cases.
